'stuff' about Gaz and his drums: Started playing
when I was about 11 or 12, I borrowed some sticks from a local Army Cadet Band. I
certainly had no idea that it would turn into anything, its just something I had to
do. The guy there said You have something son, use these, bring em back when
you finished. Sadly I dont have them anymore and the guy passed away a very
long time ago.
When I was a small boy it
drove my Mother nuts at the dinner table. Knife, fork and tabletop, what a great place to
practice rudiments. In the end she had to take the cutlery away from me. It was killing
her mentally. (also explains the current eating habits!)
I started with two bass
drums very early on in my world. It made the kit bigger, looked cooler and gave me
somewhere to hide. Later on, with my limited carpentry skills and an extra bass drum, I
extended the depth of my kick drums to 3 feet. Ye gods! The guys in the band I was playing
with at the time got a real kick in the head from those beauties.
My biggest influences
to date:
Tommy Aldridge, for his stamina and
showmanship and
Jeff Porcaro for his technical brilliance.
Favourite quotes:
People dont fail in this business, they give up.
"If it makes you
happy keep on doing it, I have and will continue for as long as Im allowed."
Gear:
Roland TD8V Custom Drum Kit.
Tama Iron Cobra Power Glide Twin Bass Pedal.
Shure WH20 Headset Mic.
Mackie SA1512z Active Speaker Cab.
And of course 'the wheel' -
borrowed (honest guv!) from a Honda VFR.
